What You Need to Know Regarding Radiation in Veterans

If you have served in active duty for the United States as part of its Armed Forces, there may perhaps be a time that you have been exposed to radiation while on the battlefield.

While we do experience some radiation in our daily lives (using smartphones, watching TV shows, sitting in front of the computer, etc), the radiation in a warzone may be more than what the body can handle. When the body is exposed to such high levels of radiation, there will be great chances that disorders and illnesses will show up.

Diseases associated with high levels of radiation

For veterans who have participated in a radiation-risk activity during their time in active duty, there are certain cancers that are related to the exposure. For instance, cancers of the bone, brain, colon, gall bladder, ovary, bile ducts, and liver to name a few. There can also be a risk of acquiring lung cancer and cancer in the urinary tract.

Veterans are also at risk at acquiring leukemia, lymphomas, and multiple myeloma.

Other diseases that are connected with the exposure of high levels of radiation while in service are parathyroid adenoma, posterior subscapular cataracts, and tumors found in the brain and in the central nervous system.

What you can do?

If you are showing signs of these illnesses and you did serve in active duty during your time in the military, you are qualified to get health benefits from the government. This can be done by going to the Veteran’s Affairs office, in which you will be assisted with the health benefits that you can obtain. All you need to do is submit all the required documents and they can give you these benefits free of charge.

Do not waste time if you notice symptoms of the stated sicknesses. If you and your family own a Freedom ALERT emergency pendant then put it to good use.
